It was extremely sad to hear today that Australian legend and icon, Steve Irwin, famed wild life lover and zoo owner, has died. He was barbed by a Sting Ray while making a documentary.
I come to realize that Australia doesn't really have an internationally recognized icon anymore, and that's quite impacting for Australia. We have lost a little piece of our country.
So, what does everyone else think?

This sad news has got media coverage here. I couldn't have seen any cable channels, but he has been appeared on many variety or documentary programs of our regular TV. I hope his soul rest in peace.
Our country doesn't have worldwide icons, too. We have a famous zoophilist, Mutsugoro here, but few overseas people would know him and lament the death of him if he passes away.

Mr. Irwin shows Animal Planet is popular on Satellite TV and he will be greatly missed. It is a very sad day, and may he rest in peace.

I'm fascinated that he was that popular in Japan. It makes you realize his huge fanbase world wide and how he was such an influential and inspirational figure. Rest in Peace. :(

I'm really glad that this community has shown its respects for a man of science. As a naturalist and a humanist, I revere such thinkers and contributors to knowledge of this sort.

It is very inspiring to see someone like him who truly lived life to the fullest. I have been near death once (gunpoint robbery) and I knew from that moment how short life can be.
We need more people full of passion like Steve Irwin.
