Do you prefere going out to your local movie theatre, or do you prefere your own home theatre?
On one hand, the movie theatre offers a large screen, surround sound stereo, and the latest movies, but having to deal with other crowds of people talking or making other noise during the film, dirty seats, sticky floors, and having to bring your own refreshments from home to avoid paying exorbitant prices for in-theatre refreshments can make you wish you had just stayed home. That, and there are no intermissions during the film to allow a person to freshen up without missing any of the film.
On the other hand, depending on your own setup at home, it may or may not be as good as the movie theatre. Plus, it takes awhile for recent films to reach DVD status, and even then, during the first few months after their release, those recent films may or may not be available at your local rental or retailer for awhile. On the plus side though, you can stop, play, backtrack or forward track through the film as you please, so you can freshen up at your own discretion, and the DVD releases usually come with extras that aren’t shown with the theatrical release.
Personally, I go for my own home cinema. Renting movies is often cheaper for me than to paying for movie tickets; I’m never in a hurry to see the latest movie. I can wait for it to come out on DVD, all so I can enjoy it in the sanctity of my own home, watching it my own leisure, at my own pace.
