I know it's incredibly rare for video game composers to release sheet music for their works, but i'm a huge fan of Sakuraba's works and I'd like to be able to play his piano solo pieces, like An Elegy for the Wanderer. Is it possible for me to obtain or buy any sheet music?
thanks...

I'm not sure if any sheet music to any of his piano solos was ever released. But if so, are you sure you could play a piece as grandiose as "Elegy for the Wanderer"? Heck, I can’t even play “Hailstorm” from Baten Kaitos :p

i've played a lot of the FF piano collections and other VGM PCs...so i'm sure i can handle this with some practice. I sure hope I can get sheet music, but if not i might have to resort to transcribing it.
oh...and what other tracks from his works are piano solos? ^^

Well, I can tell you now, "Elegy of the Wanderer" is quite a step up from Final Fantasy Piano Collections. :p
In most of Sakuraba's PSX works onwards, you'll find at least one (or two) piano solos (or pieces heavily focused on piano). Another decent solo of his is "So Alone, Be Sorrow - Piano Ver." from Star Ocean 3. You can try this or the version played at his live concert, which is considerably harder! :p
I'm sure someone a lot more versed in Sakuraba will be able to help you in more detail. Maybe datschge could lend a hand?

Someone called me? I can help with... transcribing?
Well, as far as easier (I guess) to do piano solos by Sakuraba is concerned the Tales series has a couple piano pieces, and my personal pick for now without diving any deeper would probably be "Love from Us" from Hiouden SFC, most of which never found their way onto the separate soundtrack releases unfortunately...
Eh, that's kind of a non-help, isn't it? ^^;;
PS: To what do you refer to by "Elegy of the Wanderer"? To "Elegy of the Bewildered"?

Heh, thanks for your input anyway!
Yeah, the Tales series does have a few pieces, as far as I can remember. Star Ocean 2 has 2 lovely and 'deep' solos, and Star Ocean has 1.
I know I'm referring to "Elegy of the Bewildered", and I know he is too (after all, is there another Sakuraba piano solo by a similar name). Anyway, it's a marvelous track and it's a pity that it lost to "Variations of Castle Theme" on the SquareSound contest.

THanks for the input.
and he title clarification too....when i first recieved the file it was already named "An Elegy for the Wanderer" I guess that was a mis-labeled file or something....but i think that'd be highly unlikely since it's not a very popular piece.
I do understand that it's much harder than any of the FF pieces (well...i guess it's in league with some of the battle themes)...but i think it'd be a good challenge for me.
Thanks for the recommendations too. I'll be sure to check them out..
yeah actually...may i have this transcribed please?
thanks a lot!

I've just checked out Variations of Castle theme...i don't have a clue how it could've won over Elegy...i mean...it's a very nice example of Theme and Variation, but Elegy just has so much more depth and complexity. I like how the harmony in Elegy switches between diatonic/modal/atonal, and i think there's even some pentatonic.
Oh well...I'll be one happy musician if i'll be able to get a functional copy of sheet music.
