Hey everyone. Me and my two roommates just purchased our tickets to the premier of Video Games Live here in Los Angeles. If you haven't heard about this awesome event, check out their website here: www.videogameslive.com. You know, since moving to L.A. (I'm from a small town in Michigan) I've been pretty stressed out. Life here is so fast paced and the business world is rather cut-throat, but I do get to experience events like this. I got to see the U.S. premier of "Howl's Moving Castle" too! I'm glad that this event is taking place (it's touring the country and then the globe!); hopefully Video Games Live will open people's ears to VGM and help it start to get the respect it deserves. Anyway, I'll let you guys know how it went after Wednesday the 6th. If anyone else is going to be there, let me know; maybe we can meet up.

That's awesome. We'll be in section F1. We're not going to be able to make it for much of the pre-show stuff :(. I'm going to try to get out of work at 5:00 instead of 6:00 (shouldn't be too hard; I'll just go in an hour early). But my roommate doesn't get out of work until 6:00. We'll probably make it their around 7:00. I can't wait!

I hope they organize this better than More Friends. Since I believe this is being done by a different group I probably shouldn't have any doubts. And while Final Fantasy is good and all, I'm really excited about this one as it is the first concert to hold a variety of music from different games. Maybe someday they'll do an old-school video game concert... OMG how i would LOVE to hear Hirasawa's Star Fox's main theme orchestrated live! I personally can't wait to hear the Kingdom Hearts song they are going to play!

I've heard an orchestrated version of the Star Fox main theme! It's the first track on the Orchestral Game Concert Volume 3. Have you heard it? Those CDs are out of print, so I don't think I'm breaking any rules by offering to send you an MP3 of that track... just let me know and I'll attach the track to an email for you :). Have fun at the concert tonight! I'll be having fun one section away from ya'.

Do you happen to have the OGC CD's. If you do, you are very lucky! They are the rarest King Record CDs around

No, I don't have the actual CDs. I wish. However, I do have all of the tracks from the five volumes that were released. Don't think bad of me for having the MP3s and not the CDs; I only download VGM that is out of print and extremely hard to find, like these gems ;).

On a different note: VIDEO GAMES LIVE ROCKED!!!! I just got back from the concert, and man was it good. So much good music was played flawlessly by the LA Philharmonic. Highlights include Metal Gear Solid, One-Winged Angel (for piano and two vocalists), Advent Rising (so good that I bought the OST at the booth right after the show), Mario, Zelda, and Halo. The whole show was amazing but those stood out. One huge dissapointment: Steve Vai came out to play guitar during the Halo segment and his amp must have been off or something. Too bad. It would have been great to hear him play that live. Also, it was so cool seeing Hideo Kojima and Yuji Naka speak on stage. Koji Kondo communicated through a pre-recorded video tape, which was still very cool. Anyway, if this tour is coming near where you live, GO! It was very good. I can't wait to see what they have in store next year. Hopefully some Mitsuda (please, please, please).

Heh dont' worry about it :p I've got me a copy of that in lossless. On to the subject at matter, yeah I did feel kinda dissapointed when the guitar amp blew. It almost seemed like the volume was too high and it clipped causing the amp to quit for a few seconds. This concert really opened my ears towards the "un-Japanese" side of VGM and while I was nonetheless pretty impressed by what I heard, I'd still prefer the melody driven tunes from Japan. Although I loved those songs from Myst, Warcraft, Halo, and Advent Rising. But for me NOTHING topped that Kingdom Hearts performance (I'm sure it wasn't the greatest song there, but I have quite a soft spot for KH :))

Yeah, I agree. I hadn't heard the bulk of that music before last night. That "Advent Rising" performance was amazing! I think Tommy Tallarico is a name I'll have to keep an eye out for. I prefer the Japanese composers still too, though one live performance isn't enough to judge. I'll bet there is a lot of great music being made by American composers that we're not aware of. I hardly even play games anymore, so the chance of me hearing that music is slim. Maybe that's good though. With VGM being so expensive to buy, having to wait for the next release from my few favorite Japanese composers keeps some cash in my pocket. If I start getting into a bunch of American game music, I'll go broke for sure, as it's cheap, yes, but also readily available.

Fatigue, I'm not sure if it will be going down under. I'm almost positive I heard them mention a world tour is planned. I hope they make it out there for you. As for Mitsuda appearing, yeah, you're probably right that he won't show up. But they can at least play his music, right (please, please, please)? lol! "Flight" would be a perfect candidate for a live performance. Or any of the London Philharmonic stuff from Xenosaga. Heck, they could bring Steve Vai back to play on "Omega". That would be so sweet!

NOOOOO! Stay away from Tallarico! Go for a more... mature and better selection of American composers like Jeremy Soule and Julian Soule.

As for the Mitsuda remark, its almost certain that his music will be played next year. He is as popular as Uematsu.

I love that GIGANTIC hint Tommy said after the interactive symphony. He gave that lady a game of frogger and told her to hone her skills for a better chance next year!! weeeeeee!!!!!
