Rockman X8:

Against my own judgement I went ahead and ordered this. I had thought about not really being impressed with the music "in game" however I wasn't impressed with X7 in game (at the time) and it has become a real fave for me. So, my thinking was, sometimes a soundtrack can have a life beyond the game it hadn't normally had and I am a Rockman fan. Well, though I've only heard it a couple of times I'm somewhat disappointed. The production is generally "ratty" and many of the tunes I just didn't even remember because they AREN'T memorable. On my walkman style Sony CD player the sound is passable but on my car cd player with the rest of the world wizzing by the sound is muddled, tinny, and dull.

There are a few bright spots sprinkled around though. If the production was better "Theme of Rockman X8" and "Noahs Park" would be gems. "Jakob" has that nice bop and melody I've always loved with Rockman Music. "Gateway" being my fave is unfortunately not very long. Sadly, there is a long list of "mehs" that seem to be strung together as one uninspired hair-melody after another. In many ways this is like a parody of a Rockman soundtrack, and there are far too many tracks that are under a minute that should have been extended or expanded because they are really good (title, menu, save).

Grade: C-

Rockman X: Command Mission:

Now we're talkin'! Even though I can't read any of the song titles and had only briefly rented the game I took a chance on this one. While this is not the Zero Remastered: Idea killer I have been looking for, it is much better than X8. The production is tight and crisp and the tunes just zip along and seem more in line with what I consider that "Rockman sound." Hard to pinpoint exact tunes I like without titles (tracks 5,6, and 11, are notable) but just about all have that futuristic bop I love in a Rockman OST, well worth the money. The sound seems to be a cross between the Sonic Series (lite hearted) and Mega Man X7 (futuristic sounding), a real plus for me. You know a s/t is good when you love it without owning the game!! The overall production and sound of RX:CM leaves me thinking maybe X8 tried too hard with the guitar work as it seems to have overshadowed everything else. While I love the guitar work in the Zero Remastered series, X8 was just overkill, X Command suffers from none of these problems. A must own.

Grade: B+

Yes, the Rock Man X Command Mission soundtrack I very like!

I'm just wishing Cocoebiz would be re-stocking it soon, I want it SO badly!

I agree with that it sounds like Sonic the Hedgehog/SEGA music, and still manages to sound like traditional Rock Man X music, although more synth/techno rather than rock and roll. Makes for a very dark and futuristic mood, just like the Rock Man X series always has been.

Please tell me you'll re-stock it soon, Cocoebiz!

Wow, X Command is OUT OF STOCK already...? I just got mine... and I pre ordered it not long ago. Have you heard Rockman X8 yet?

Excellant. I just noticed that the song titles for X Command are in ENGLISH on this site!! YES!! Somehow I feel more connected to songs when I have a general idea of what they're about. There I go, talking about that crazy English again:()

ALOT of the track titles for the albums are in English on the site.

You must've either come across one of the many few tracklistings that are still in Japanese and haven't been updated since they were first posted, or the track names were MEANT to be in Japanese, and just don't translate into English. Take it easy, friend.

I was reffering to the oddity that the track listing on the OST are in Japanese, so if this site didn't list them in English I'd never know what they were called.

Yes, the Rock Man X Command Mission soundtrack I very like!

I'm going to have to disagree with both of you here. I think the Command Mission OST is one of the worst Rockman OSTs ever. It's dull and extremely uninspired. I haven't heard the X8 soundtrack yet, so I can't comment one way or the other on that one yet.

XLord, before ruling on X Command you really should hear X8. Sometimes by comparison a perspective can be changed. Just out of curiousity, what are your favorite Rockman Soundtracks?

Mine are Idea (Remastered), Telos (Remastered) and X5. My only gripe I didn't mention in my lil review is sadly the X Command songs are quite short, but I still say (IMO) they are up to snuff.

Regardless of how I feel about X8's OST when I hear it, it's not going to change how I feel about CM's OST. The music is bland. If I don't like X8's music, it's not going to make CM's any better.

You really can't comment on a particular soundtrack if you haven't even heard the music yet. Just because you didn't like Mega Man X8's soundtrack means that Command Mission's soundtrack is going to be better or worse; those are two separate games with separate soundtracks.

But, hey, it's probably better for me if you DON'T like; that's one last person that will snatch a copy of it out from under my hands. Apparently, the Command Mission soundtrack's been sold out here AND gamemusic.com, so, lots of people disagree with your opinion. Just hope I can still get a copy for myself...

Though if you recieved both st's at the same time as I did, it is natural to realize how much better RXCM is by comparison. Sorry to say this but this is my last post on these boards. It's just nothing but people wanting to criticize and nit pick.

People have their own opinions. Musical preferences are subjective. As long as you think the music is great, that is all that really matters.

Forums have opinionated people all the time. This is nothing new.

I find it silly to try to argue over something subjective. There is no correct answer.

Yes, obviously. No one has done this yet in this thread, so I'm not sure what you're referring to.

If a CD sells out, it doesn't mean that it's good. It just means that it's popular relative to the number of units distributed. I bought the Command Mission soundtrack because it's a Rockman soundtrack. When I bought it, I didn't know if it would be good or bad. It turned out to be bad. Had I known it was bad before buying it, I still would have bought it just because it's Rockman music and I want it my collection.

The point I'm trying to make is that it makes no difference to me how the RMXCM OST compares to the RMX8 OST. It's fine if you think the RMXCM OST is better than the RMX8 OST. What I'm trying to say is that I dislike the RMXCM OST on its own.

Wow, it's the first time I see someone leaving a board, being so pissed off about people having different opinions. Welcome to reality.

Just got Rockman X8 OST and I love it. Probably my second-favorite X OST behind X5 and even then, the sound quality of X8 stands alone at the top by a long shot. Those guitars are crisp and clear throughout the entire soundtrack and I found myself wanting to listen to it over and over again. "Jakob", "Noah's Park" and most of the boss battles are my easy favorites, but the others are growing on me the more I listen to it (I'm finding a lot of the tunes are catchy, but not really memorable...That seems to be the norm with X music in general and sort of the way it differentiates from the original series). Definitely makes up for the disappointing Shin Sangokumusou 4 OST, as far as rock OST's go this year (but nowhere near the awesomeness of Dragonball Z3!) It's definitely an improvement over X7 in basicly every aspect, including presentation (X7 had way too many filler tracks). Highly recommended.

I've heard bits and pieces of Command Mission and I'm far from impressed. I'll probably wait to play the game before getting the music.

So, anyone like the X7 OST, and can tell me anything about it?

I like the X7 OST, but there's not much I can tell you about it beyond that. It's not as good as the X5 or X6 OSTs, but it's quite solid.
