The catalog number for the Kirite album leads one to believe that the album is two discs, but the tracklist has only 14 tracks. Is the album actually two discs? If so, is the tracklist for both discs or just for one of the discs?

There is one disc and one book.

Are you saying that the book has a catalog number as if it were a disc?

Yes, this is written on the website.

Yes, this is written on the website.

I don't see that info on this site (maybe I'm missing it), but either way, I think it's inappropriate of Sleigh Bells to do that. It should give the book some other type of designation. Oh well.

Well, this is on the product page: 品番:SBPS-0008~9(CD1枚組 +本)
本 (hon) is a very simple japanese word :D

Oh, when you said "site" I thought you meant on this website. I didn't know you were talking about the Japanese Mitsuda site. Regardless, my previous comment about the inappropriate use of the numbering still stands.

Coming across an image of the Kirite album on Mitsuda-san's diary page only increases the anticipation to await for the release date. I am very looking forward to this as always!

Who hear ordered the first press of Kirite? I did! I cant wait to hear it! I like Yasunori Mitsuda and Eri Kawai.

By the way, does Mitsuda read this forum?

By the way, does Mitsuda read this forum?

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think that it says in the announcements that all questions to composers dealt with by administrators, and relayed/translated to the composer if possible. If that's the case, then I doubt it  of course, there's always the off-chance that one of the composers might check out the english forums.

I need to improve my kanji vocabulary so that I can read more of the Kirite album information, not to mention the actual book. Will the Kirite book possibly be available translated sometime in the future?

I wish I spoke Japanese. Maybe ill teach myself one day...

As for the translation of the Kirite book, you could probably ask Cocoebiz to translate it.

A translated version of the Kirite story would definitely be nice to have, but I doubt we'll see one any time soon if not ever. That also brings up the question of how many pages the book will turn out to be? Well, either way I can't wait for it to arrive! :)

It will turn out to be around 52 pages.

I just received Kirite today in the mail and immediately put it in my cd player to have a listen. I must say that I am very pleased with how it turned out. Kirite holds true to the classic Yasunori Mitsuda sound, but also takes it further. The vocals of Eri Kawai only strengthen the musical landscape that Mitsuda paints with his compositions. Kalta's contribution to the tracks are impressive as always along with the other musicians. The opening song is definitely one of the highlights of the album as it has a smooth transition from a soft soothing melody to a powerful celtic-influenced piece. It caught me off guard, but in a good way. Overall, Kirite surpasses my expectations and shows that Mistuda just keeps getting better at what he does. :)

I just received Kirite yesterday morning; I picked it up from my apartment's office on my way to work. I listened to it about six or seven times in a row while I was at work. Yeah, I'm lucky enough to be able to listen to Mitsuda while working :) Amazing album! If only I could read the story too...Anyway, lots of awesome music here. If you haven't picked this one up yet, don't wait. It is well worth it.

Everyone, post your thoughts of the album on this thread. Also, if anyone has a translation of the message Mitsuda wrote that is printed on the back of the sheet music for "Circle of Eternity", let us know. I'm sure everyone is wondering what is written there. Happy listening!

I have managed to translate the first and last line of that message:
Line 1: Circle of Eternity
Last Line: Yasunori Mitsuda

That's right! I figured those out all on my own! lol!!!!!

"Kirite" is a new music/story collaboration from Yasunori Mitsuda (composer) and Masato Kato (writer). This pair worked together in the past on both the Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross games. This release contains a book with Kato's story (sadly, not translated), and a fourteen track CD with Mitsuda's music which was composed to accompany the story. Don't worry about your enjoyment of the music being diminished by not being able to read the story, the music is fantastic on its own. I would love to read Kato's story though, and see how the music works with it. Oh well, maybe a translation will be available sometime in the future. So if you are a fan of Mitsuda or love great music, pick this one up. It's great!

Like skitch mentioned earlier: Kirite is a project Yasunori Mitsuda worked on and collaborated with scenario writer and friend Masato Kato. Masato Kato was the writer behind Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross as well. While Kato-san wrote a story called "Kirite," Mitsuda-san composed an album of 14 tracks to create the world of Kirite in the form of a musical album. Hope that clears things up.

My review on Kirite:

The album is like it has two sides to it: cheerful and upbeat, then
dark and moody.

The introduction track, "Is Kirite Burning?" is delightfully
deceptive; it starts off very serene, then breaks out into an
action-packed, almost "river-dancing" style anthem. You could compare
it to "Chrono Cross ~ Time's Scar" from the Chrono Cross soundtrack;
there is even some electric guitar work in it.

The vocal tracks, "Promise of the Wind ~ Where the Petals Are," "Blue
Sky," and "Name of Our Hope," obviously in Japanese, are very upbeat
and cheerful. You could call them J-Pop, but they're exceptional
J-Pop.

The rest of the music is pretty dark and moody, but not necessarily
ominous or foreboding.

My favorite track on the album is "Howling Snow," the echoing sound
effect, and the other instruments work well together to conjure a
mental image of a desolate snow field, or snow-covered forest at
nighttime. It just sounds very spacey, and I like it that way.

Overall, it's a very good album, and you can tell it was definitely
performed by live instruments, especially the drums; they're NOT synth
beats, but real, live drums! If any instruments on the album catch my
ears, it's definitely the flute, string, and drum work.

If you like new age, Celtic-styled music, this should definitely be
your cup of herbal tea.

It's not here on VGM World anymore? Well, that is a pity. It's a great album, but I can't imagine it'd be out-of-print, or out of distribution for that matter, just yet. After all, it's still a rather recent release!

I actually got a copy of it along with most of Mitsuda-san's albums at VGM.
I'm enjoying each and everyone of them. Too much emotion to take at once, though.

Hi..
Kirite:
How to say.. alot of the instrumental music on this album is very nice.. it took awhile before I managed to enjoy the themes, which is a good thing, because music that is always catched after first listen, often gets boring to me..
My favourite Tracks on this album are "The Snow Howling" and "Nocturne"
It has a great atmosphere, and a great landscape in its sound.. its very nice.
The main theme that is most "clear" and "in your face" that is used as the "repeated" main theme, is "Circle Of Infinity" which also is found on "Scorning Blade" and "The name of our hope"..
Scorning Blade and Prayer tree is also good tracks..
Instrumental Parts of the vocal tracks are good, but personally, I do not like the vocals, very Anime/J-pop vocals, I don't like the vocals and the tones in overall.. Kind of takes away some of the seriousness of the overall feeling on this album, this is just a personal oppinion though...

I give it a 7/10..

PS: I liked "Sailing To The World" alot better.. maybe I'd like Kirite better if I knew the story, who knows..
