I'm a little curious why some soundtracks are carried and others aren't. I can understand the lack of Final Fantasy albums, but why do you not carry anything from Namco? Ace Combat, Katamari Damacy, Tales of Symphonia... what gives?

I only ask because I want to order these but feel more comfortable ordering them from here.

EDIT: to expand a bit, how do you decide what to order and what not to? For example, why you carry Falcom and Scitron albums but didn't have anything from DigiCube (that I remember at least) until they went out of business, or why you don't have anything from a Namco game.

Cocoebiz has to negotiate with the publishing label to sell CDs. Cocoebiz does not go to the game company to negotiate CD selling rights.

Cocoebiz carries Ace Combat 4, which is published by Scitron. Cocoebiz has a reseller contract with Scitron, so Cocoebiz will be carrying many Scitron albums.

Ace Combat 5 won't be out until around December, and it's being published by King Records. Cocoebiz does not have a reseller contract with King Records as of yet. Cocoebiz did not have a reseller contract with Digicube.

Tales of Symphonia was published by Digicube and then republished by King Records. Katamari Damacy is currently published by Columbia Records Japan. Cocoebiz currently has no vendor contracts with these entities.

Yea, I noticed you had Ace Combat 4's soundtrack right after I posted.. kinda embarrassing there.

Thank you for answering. There is one more thing I'm wondering about though, what motivates you to get contracts with one company but no another, like getting one with Scitron but not King or Columbia? I'm just curious, that's all.

Take their place, and I wonder what would be the result. Negociate contracts is not easy as going to a shopping mall and buy some stuffs on the shelves.

Some record labels are smaller and easier to deal with than others, and the ones currently contracted have expressed similar goals in reaching foreign overseas customers.

Also, cocoebiz is still a 'small startup' company, and doesn't have the same influence with Star-Power companies like King. Columbia obviously is a world-wide player, with offices in many countries, so it's simply their own choice not to release VGM albums to other regions. (they could easily do so themselves, if they saw the profit/need)

Time will tell if more collaborations with major companies will be available, but already in the short time cocoebiz has started negotiations with labels, there's been PLENTY of booming catalog expansion just by working with all the many minor-label companies.

Scitron is quite an important (and historic) vgm publishing house themselves, so even to get their approval was a major achievement. :D

Ah, okay, that explains quite a bit. Thanks a lot. :)

More importantly Columbia is part of Sony which is a (in some countries even *the*) major player in the business of distributing entertainment goods.

The Sony Japan folks think that there might be some benefit to release VGM in the USA. The problem is Sony Music USA has almost no interest in VGM. It is my understanding that Sony Music Japanese folks have almost no influence on their USA counterparts.
