Hello everyone,

Here is some news from Mr. Nobuo Uematsu, publised in his latest Newsletter to "Fan Club Members".

Mr. Nobuo Uematsu last days at "Square/Enix", and will leave at the end of October, 2004.

Here is his message to his fan club members:

"Hello everyone!

I would like to thank you all for supporting my fan club.

Well, I have news for you guys this time. I am going to leave Square/Enix at end of October!!

Did I surprise you?

Oh well, I'm not joking, it is the real thing, and I am going to quit!

Ah...., there is always a negative image when employees "leave or quit their job", so I say, "I have graduated from the company..." how is that?

There weren't any problems or arguements between them and me, so please don't take it the wrong way.

I hope to work at my own pace now. So, this is what we call, a "Peaceful Resignation".

My work will not end, I will keep creating game music, having more orchestral concerts and live concerts, making more "Black Mages" music albums, and also we are considering these plans for overseas fans as well.
Please continue supporting my work.

Oh, this fan club "Nobiwo no Shippo" will continue, so please relax!

My new company that I am starting is called "SMILE PLEASE".
I will keep living my life with smiles and enjoy everyday. :)

Nobuo Uematsu
October 31st, 2004."

Thank you,
CocoeBiz :)

Interesting news.
Thanks for the translation of his personal message.

Most composers have to go freelance or start companies much sooner if they want more control over their songs & income.

(Basiscape, SuperSweep, Wave Master, etc..)

Guess he finally gets to break the chains of being a Salaryman for Life, hehe 8)

Kind of sad to see him go, but I guess if he starts his own company it gives him a bit more freedom. He said he'll continue to create game music. Anyone know of any games he plans on working on in the future?

Also, going freelance allows the composer to choose the projects he/she wishes to do. Depending on the contract, going freelance may or may not result in more control of their songs. If you are extremely popular, then you can probably exert more control over the songs in contract negotiations.

When I first started reading this I was really worried we wouldn't be hearing any more from Uematsu, but I'm glad that is not the case. Thinking about it I think this would be a wise move for him, actually. He has earned a break at least. I'd also like to know what kind of game music he will be working on in the future, if he is no longer composing for FF games I think future additions to the FF series will lose their unique feel. FFX-2 didn't sound right without Uematsu as it is; without Uematsu it just isn't FF =\

I wish the best of look to Nobuo Uematsu, anyway, and I hope everything goes well for him in the future. I'm happy to hear there will be more Black Mages concerts/CDs, too! I'll be there ;) He has produced some unbelievable work during his time with Square and I'm sure he will continue to do the same as Smile please :)

Man! that is a big thing to happen!

I hope they get some other good musicians to create music for the future square enix games. what if all the future soundtracks end up like ffx2?

Maybe hitoshi Sakimoto will get another big game on his own.

I used to hold a cassete tape recorder up to my t.v. as a kid and record his music off of the games.

his music is the first time i liked music.

maybe its the same for a lot of us- that is why we are on this forum don't you think? :D

I do look foward to hearing his future works with SMILE PLEASE and I remain confident that they can be obtained through Cocoebiz.

Hmn, I wonder how that'll affect FFXII (if at all)?

It won't. Uematsu's already done with the main theme(s); the rest is up to Sakimoto.
