I was wondering what you guys think of this composer? I personally feel he is one of my favorite composers. I really love his style and haven't hated one album done by him yet. So what is your opinion?

I definitely like his style of music. Just recently, I was revisiting the music of Vagrant Story, due to the new PSF set. I had the album once, and then it got lost/stolen. So it was great hearing that music again.
There's this one feeling I can't shake...since the same team that did Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story is doing Final Fantasy XII right now, I just think that Sakimoto would be involved with the music. Does anyone agree with this possibility?

I agree with the possibility, but I hope he's not the only one involved with the music since his style is not really varied enough for my tastes. Don't get me wrong, I think the Vagrant Story and FFTA soundtracks are great, but his OgreBattle/TO/FFT/Radiant Silvergun stuff is too "samey." On the under hand, his Legaia 2 stuff was very nice and a welcome departure from his usual stuff.

This is by FAR one of my favorite composers EVER!! Vagrant story was the first game music album I ever bought. This guy can do some excellent dungeon themes that give chills! They remind me of Castlevenia. I wish this guy would compose his music with a live orchestra.
The opening to vagrant story hooked me.... That music, I thought "Where could you get an album of this kind of music?" Online of course! :D
Romeo Guildensterns music and Steel Golem are great!
The haunted ballroom type music that was in the underground city just perfect. All of the superlatives I can think of would go toward the songs in Vagrant Story soundtrack!
Ironically the only songs I very much disliked in the whole album were the arranged tracks!
You struck my typing nerve when you asked opinions about Mr. Sakimoto!
I never heard Legaia 2 music, and don't know what Ogre battle is. I bet it is good stuff! :D This is why the forum is soo good cause everyone here knows their music

No problem and I really like the Radian Silvergun OST. Oh, and Gemeines, the Ogre Battle OST is really nice. It's nice the FFT team is working on the FFXII soundtrack, but will Uematsu be involved? And yes, Legia 2 is probably one of Sakimoto's best work!

Just a quick correction, the main FFT/OB/VS team is invloved in the development of FFXII, minus the music department. So far, only Uematsu is confirmed to be working on the soundtrack. I'm hoping Sakimoto or any other noteworthy composer will have joined his ranks.

Oh, that's right...I remember reading about that in OPM, that the team for FFT is head of the development. And at least it's good to see Uematsu doing this FF soundtrack; maybe he will go old school and do it on his own, lol!

Vagrant Story was the first VGM soundtrack I purchased, as well. *I love you EBAY*
To me his music is very excellent, yet redundant and mediorce in accord with my standards, but some tunes on Vagrant Story and FFT will always give me chills.

I think few composers of any media have captured the essence of the "moment" as well as Hitoshi Sakimoto. He has a knack for timing. An example of this would be a seamless synchronization between whats going on in the battle and the type of emotion the music is appropriately driving. It think the Final Fantasy Tactics soundtrack expresses what I am saying a little more fully than I am able to put into words. Final Fantasy Tactics contains the necessary parameters to truly make a connection with the observer, due in large part to the music of Mr. Sakimoto.

I still cant believe that Vagrant story has not become an arranged album, or re-mastered or something!
the recording is a bit quiet, not as loud as it should be. I have an early square release copy of the album (it included a rood inverse sticker) and it seems like the recording could have been louder. (or maybe I am just wearing out my CD)
in any event...
I still have not found a soundtrack I like better.

I don't think Vagrant Story needs to be arranged. It's amazing enough as it is. It's unfortunate that I've listened to the album so many times that I've gotta *gasp* a little bored with some of the tracks.
On the general note, he is may favourite composer of all time. I have many computer game AND movie soundtracks, and this guy crams more classics in one CD than what most movie composers have in their entire career.
And yet, I still feel he has yet to live his finest hours in his professional career. I hope, anyway.

I agree it does not need to be arranged at all, but I would still like it if an arrange or live album was done.
It is my favorite cd but the recording quality is quiet. I love the cds but they are recorded so low in volume in comparison to other osts. I have to turn my speakers up much higher to hear all the detail.
If it were done by a live orchestra as well- it would be pretty fun, I imagine.
and I 110% agree with you that he has yet to live his finest hours in his professional career. (hoping too)
I dont think I have heared as many game osts as some but
Thus far he is my favorite composer of too.

I'm interested in this other version of the 'Vagrant Story OST'. What does the front cover look like? Mine is a red/brown one with a tatoo on the back (of Sydney, for all those who've played the game). Mine doesn't have a problem with sound. I can imagine it being a problem. What's life worth living for if you can't listen to 'Ifrit' on full blast?
I can understand the live orchestra for VS too. The final track, 'Staff Credits', is amongst one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard. Thinking about it, an entire album like that would be awesome.
What I liked about Vagrant Story OST is, unlike many OSTs, it was like a film where the music was edited to the cutscenes. So instead of having the same repeated tunes in loops, he was able to elaborate on a number of tracks - most notably 'Climax of the Grayland Incident'.
By the way, have you Sakimoto fans listened to the two tracks on the FF12 site?
Go to www.ff12.com then click on the enter button (enter new screen) then go to 'trailers and music'. The first track is AMAZING. One of the best he's done so far, and I'm not over exaggerating.

:) *There are VERY VERY few people that could instill that kind of beauty and emotion into a piece of music. Simply, its magic. I am thinking the harp/flute track is going to be echoing one of the main musical themes in Final Fantasy XII and I can't wait to hear how this theme is going to be recycled throughout. Just from listening to this piece, I am getting vague glimpses of Final Fantasy Tactics orchestral stylings and harmony...Old School Sakimoto.
I've also had a chance to play the demo disc of Final Fantasy XII and will say that he is also utilizing harmonic/percussive styles that are dark and foreboding indicating such emotional statuses as those represented in Vagrant Story.
...
I am getting restless.

lol! yes it is hard to go on with life without the raw power of 'ifrit' shaking the walls of my home- deluded by a mild recording....or maybe the recordings fine but my ears just want more. ^_^
I think most likely the album is same as yours except ot included a limited sticker. some early copies included a sticker.

Yes! It is so wild when you listen to the music you are displaced back into Le'monde (sp?) His music makes It so easy to relive the tale right through headphones. Perfect visuals with every listen.
