Dear Mr. Iwadare,

I must say your talent as a game music composer is quite extrodinary and your music for the Grandia and Lunar series has really made them more enjoyable.

I was wondering did you always wanted to be a game music composer? What lead you to become a game music composer? Was it because you loved video games and music, so you decided this was the right path for you? Just curious on how you got to where you are today.

Thanks in advance for answering my question and keep up the great work!

Answer

Thank you very much. I put everything I had into writing the music for
Grandia and Lunar (of course I do the same for my other projects, but those
two are special). In particular, I always first consider how to create a
good melody that will complement the scene before I start composing. I'm
truly happy that you sympathize with my efforts.

I certainly never imagined I would become a game music composer when I was
younger. I only knew that I really wanted to write music. While
participating in a band, I was also doing arrangements for CDs and music for
video game promotion videos, and a friend told me "write music for this
game". It was one scene from "Space Invaders: Day of Resurrection" for PC
Engine, and since my piece was well received, I wound up taking a job at a
game music production company on my friend's recommendation. I quickly came
to realize that I really enjoyed writing music to accompany images. I'm sure
I would have enjoyed writing film or television drama music as well, but
writing music for games was a new field at that time and, I thought, one of
great worth. That's probably why I continue to do it. The stimulation I get
from the game industry's constant struggle to create something new is what
makes my job so interesting.
