Anyone else astounded with the amazing pieces he created for the game Legend of Mana? What a great soundtrack :)

Don't you mean "she" ? ;)
And yes, Legend of Mana is a great soundtrack. Personally, I think Kingdom Hearts has an edge over it, but it's still very good.

I gotta disagree there. I don't think either LoM or KH represent Shimomura's full ability (Street Fighter II, Live A Live, and Mario RPG are all far better), but of the two, LoM is easily superior. In fact, I would say that KH is Shimomura's worst soundtrack.
Yes, the soundtracks mentioned by XLord007 got my attention much more.
Music from Street Fighter II never gets old, even after playing the game all these years, and SMRPG happens to be my favorite Mario music. Nothing against Legend of Mana, except that Hiroki Kikuta's Seiken Densetsu 3 OST is a tough act to follow. I will admit the songs from Kingdom Hearts can sound pretty good and even better if you especially enjoy the Disney« flavor.

XLord,
In my opinion, the titles you mentioned not only have better soundtracks but they are better games in general. I got seasick from playing Kingdom Hearts because the camera jerked around so much, and Legend of Mana is only fun if you enjoy forks in the road. I do not know anything about Live a Live, but I played through Mario RPG more than once and have Street Fighter II in my SNES today.
I agree. SFII and SMRPG are better games than KH and LoM. Additionally, two other Shimomura works that are both better games and have better music (at least in my opinion) than KH and LoM are Parasite Eve and Mario & Luigi.

To me, Legend of Mana is an excellent game (I really love it!) and its soundtrack is the best of Shimomura. But it's hard to say which one is really the best, 'cause they'll just wonderful.
probably went too far how I was badmouthing those two games; it only seems like a big difference to me because I consider SF2 and SMRPG to be such classics.
quite a few high quality soundtracks listed here, plus the original Front Mission, so respect to Ms. Yoko Shimomura. :)

yes yoko is an amazing composer...i liked her work in KH but i loved her work especially in the original Front Misson for the snes....has ne 1 ever heard the work shes don in that game????...if not u should all listen to her pieces in that game... not Noriko Matsueda's (shes the other composet of that game and i think she wasnt that gr8)
Unfortunately, I have not heard the original Front Mission aside from a few minutes of samples on the Internet. It would be nice if they translated that game into English one day on Game Boy or something.
Anyway, impressive to find out these soundtracks were all made by the same person ū quite possibly the most diversity from any musician in videogames. Think about how the songs of Street Fighter II represent many different nations and how convincing they are.
looking forward to information about her next project.

Ms. Yoko Shimomura is an impressive composer, all of her works are marvelous, her last work which I know was "A longing to ancient times PART1" from Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II Premium Arrange, a great track!
I love also Legend of Mana, game and soundtrack and she is so impressive with Kingdom Hearts, oh my god, Destati...a masterpiece!

FYI, Shimomura's latest work, the soundtrack to the anime Dan Doh, was released in Japan earlier this month. The cat# is KMCA-193.

To add yet another FYI since it wasn't mentioned yet: Yoko Shimomura has her own website (in Japanese of course) (http://www.midiplex.com/) which even includes the list of games she composed (http://www.midiplex.com/works.html) e.g. in her previously rather mysterious time at Capcom.

So Shimomura really did a couple of songs Breath of Fire... Nice, you found out, quite some time it took you, heh.
There's a number of composers who worked on Street Fighter II, right?
Does any of you know, who exactly composed the "credits" or "staff roll" in SFII?? Do you think she was involved for that piece?

As far as I know, she did the character tracks, except Sagat.
