View Full Version : an cinniuint
Tsugunai - Atonement for Playstation 2 never got the recognition it deserves; hopefully the same will not happen with Yasunori Mitsuda's soundtrack. At times, the music incorporates more of a celtic style to go along with its atmospheric selections. Some portions remind me of Mitsuda's contributions to Shadow Hearts (released around the same time). For any one who enjoys the music from Chrono Cross and / or Xenogears, I give "an cinniuint" my highest recommendation.

As do I. An Cinniuint is a very pleasant follow up to his previous work that, while not necessarily evolving his sound, still manages to entertain. Good album.
The pieces that stand out to me as evolving his sound are ghostly, ambient works. ôForest of No Return,ö ôThe Vanished Body,ö ôCathedral of Darkness,ö and ôHell Resurrectedö definitely pushed the limits of music in videogames. I would like to hear much more of this from Mr. Mitsuda.
I should also mention the characteristic tribal sound he has developed over the years. Primitive around 65,000,000 BC, it appears most natural in Chrono Cross with Hydra Marsh and Lizard Beach. The ones here display kind of medieval qualities, especially "Fortress of the Orcs" (http://www.cocoebiz.com/mitsuda/english/music/ancinniuint/orcs.mp3) and "Ordeal" (http://www.cocoebiz.com/mitsuda/english/music/ancinniuint/ordeal.mp3). Can't say which style I prefer because they are all praiseworthy; also check out "Path to Enlightenment" from Sailing to the World (http://www.cocoebiz.com/catalog.php?id=158).
Any one interested in Celtic Music should hear this album. Used mainly with village scenes (http://www.cocoebiz.com/mitsuda/english/music/ancinniuint/village.mp3) and occasional unhappier sections, it generally covers familiar territory. Nevertheless, you will not find much better from any region of the world. Additionally, Tsugunai contains more interesting battle music than most other traditional RPGs. Looks like both An Cinniuint and Xenosaga OST are out of stock right now :?:, hopefully because of high demand!

I think Mitsuda sama will have to concentrate in order to surpass his Chrono Cross Soundtrack. Better than Chrono Cross' soundtrack...? is there something better than perfect?
Anyways, as you can read from him in his website, and hear from the Shadow hearts 2 soundtrack, Yasunori Mitsuda sama is adopting the rock genre. Of course that he has also done the electronic-futuristic feel of the Xenosaga soundtrack, but without leaving the celtic taste.
To tell the truth, Mitsuda sama's songs are so varied that cannot be placed in one genre, more the less his albums.
Now that you mention it, Mitsuda made good rock music for a while now (i.e. AylaÆs Theme, Magical Dreamers, Ring of Red, After Regaining It All, and so forth). I have to say I am surprised to see the new release from Sleigh Bells take after childrenÆs songs. Not saying there will not be more to it, just looks like the Magic Pencil is intended for younger audiences. You make a good point about his songs being so varied they cannot be placed in one genre, and I only use these classifications to describe the sound, not give the whole picture.

Tsugunai ~ An Cinnunuit; this album I am very much looking forward to.
When I first discovered it, it had said it had gone out-of-print, like the Shadow Hearts soundtrack.
I'm glad to see that, either they reprinted it, or there were still more left.
I'll be getting this soon, definitely before it actually goes out of print.
Listening to the music samples on RPGFan.com, it sounds a lot like Sailing to the World, so I'm definitely feeling optimistic about it.
I like hearing Chrono Cross style music from Mr. Mitsuda!
