Has anyone here heard Sakuraba's contributions to those @MIDI albums?
(I don't really know the story behind them, I just know he did some work)
Actually I only recently heard them (I got the full albums through some.. methods ) and I think they are great, and really has that old Sakuraba style. Like Gikyokuonsou, I think it sounds like he put more work into it than any normal song.
My personal favorite is "Psychosomatics" with "Cut & Paste" following behind it. I like these best because of the 'chaotic' feel they have, but the other few slower songs really are powerful too.

I did since I have some of them. ;) Still gotta get @MIDI battle, and possibly the whole rest of the series... sometime...
I wish the @MIDI people would ship internationally (or distribute to others who do), then recommending others to buy the CDs would be saner, heh.

For information, you can hear samples on the homepage of all the @MIDI series (that's at least a legal method :D ) :

I don't like it so much, but that's nice.

Keep in mind that the 30 sec samples there don't really do the songs justice. Most of them, being structured music, have their interesting stuff way past the intro part offered in the samples. Before I wasn't too impressed by the samples either, but now I'm glad I got the CDs nevertheless. Especially @MIDI's freedom, a two CDs set for 1800 yen containing four Sakuraba tracks, is a great deal if you can get someone in Japan to order it for you.

I asked the person who is in charge of @midi to sell the CDs, but still hasn't gotten a reply. Ah... we have to understand one thing that the "person" is the president of TriAce who is super busy, so we have to be patient about @midi items.
Also, Mr. Sakuraba has asked him to answer me with the sales details, so I hope the president will answer me whenever he gets time....
I'll up-date any news when I hear from him.
Thank you very much for your understanding and patience.

Yes, of all things there Yoshiharu Gotanda-san is quite doing an amazing feat, writing a couple stories (Tale Phantasia, Star Ocean), programming some games (Hiouden SFC, Tales of Phantasia SFC, Star Ocean SFC), founding tri-Ace and doing direction and scenario writing of most games there, and meanwhile still finding time organizing a hobbist music CD series @MIDI. =) But I think I raved about this guy somewhere else already, so I better stop. ^_~

Yep. Btw., just asking in general and nothing urgent, any chance we could do interviews with Motoi Sakuraba-san and all the other composers you're affiliated with so far? Besides the one with Noriyuki Iwadare-san there are no other interviews so far, it would be really nice to see more. =) (I'm more than willing to contribute questions now that Rocketbaby is basically no more. =/)

I hope it becomes the case that the @MIDI albums are put here at Cocoebiz (my preferred vendor :)) for sale. Like datschge, I'm an avid admirer of Mr. Sakuraba and Mr. Gotanda.
Mr. Sakuraba's music has such a strong sense of wonderment to it that no other composer can capture. If I could describe it using a couple more words, those words would be "magical" and "esoteric."
Similarly, Mr. Gotanda's work contains that same wonderment and magic that none other in his fields are able to reproduce.
Collectively, their talents and skills are beyond awe-inspiring. So again, like datschge, I would pounce on any opportunity to obtain or experience their art. And @MIDI is no exception.
Thank you very much Cocoebiz for making such vehement attempts to acquire albums for sale that would otherwise be conventionally unobtainable.

Getting a little bit off topic, but what ever happened to Rocketbaby? Its disappearance took me by complete surprise.

Hmm, I just noticed that "Super Magic Coat" from @MIDI's dance has the same voice that "Bitter Dance" from Star Ocean 3 does. The music sounds similar too.
